Home Run for Fire Safety at the SLO Blues Game!

On Thursday, July 10th, the San Luis Obispo County Fire Safe Council stepped up to the plate as the proud sponsor of the SLO Blues Baseball Game against the Santa Barbara Foresters – and what a night it was!

With over 600 residents in attendance, this event gave us a unique and exciting opportunity to share life-saving wildfire preparedness tips in a fun and engaging environment. Each time a foul ball was hit, fans heard a public announcement celebrating the SLO Fire Safe Council’s sponsorship along with short, impactful fire safety messages.

Our booth was located at the entrance of the stadium, where attendees could grab free educational materials and speak with fire safety professionals about home hardening, defensible space, and evacuation planning.

Adding even more excitement to the evening, we were joined by Engine 3 from SLO City Fire and CAL FIRE/SLO County Engine 21, giving fans a close-up look at the equipment used to protect our communities.

Before the first pitch, three beloved fire safety icons – Smokey Bear, Sparky the Fire Dog, and Captain Cal – made appearances to greet families and spread the message of wildfire prevention. Their presence lit up the crowd and reminded everyone that Only You Can Prevent Wildfires!

To top it off, Smokey Bear had the honor of throwing out the ceremonial first pitch, with Sparky and Captain Cal.
