CAMBRIA-CHIPPING

🌲 Cambria Chipping Event Returns – Reserve Your Spot Starting June 25! 🔥

The San Luis Obispo County Community Fire Safe Council is proud to sponsor the 2025 Cambria Chipping Event, offering free curbside chipping and removal of hazardous vegetation from residential properties in the Cambria area.

This valuable program is fully grant-funded and aims to help homeowners reduce wildfire risk by removing flammable vegetation and creating defensible space around homes. It’s one of the most effective ways to prepare your property for wildfire season—at no cost to you.

🗓 Important Dates:

  • Registration Opens: Wednesday, June 25, 2025
  • Registration Closes: Friday, July 12, 2025
  • Chipping Begins: Monday, July 14, 2025

Reservations are required and must be submitted at least three days prior to your desired chipping date. Early registration is highly encouraged to ensure availability.

✅ What the Program Includes:

Once you register and build your pile according to the program guidelines, a team of experienced, licensed, and insured contractors will:

  • Arrive at your property,
  • Chip the vegetation curbside,
  • And haul it away for proper disposal.

If you prefer, you may request that the chips be left on-site for use in landscaping or erosion control.

📋 Guidelines for Pile Preparation:

To participate, homeowners must follow the program’s pile requirements:

Pile Size:

  • One pile per reservation
  • Maximum: 20 feet long x 4 feet wide x 4 feet high

Pile Shape:

  • Must be constructed in a linear fashion
  • No “igloo” or “beehive” piles — these will be skipped

Material Limits:

  • Branches must be less than 6 inches in diameter
  • No lumber, root balls, palm fronds, yucca, or poison oak

Stacking Tips:

  • Place cut ends facing the street
  • Do not bag or tie the vegetation
  • Pile must be ready by 8:00 AM on your scheduled chipping day

🚧 Pile Location Requirements:

  • Piles must be within 5 feet of an accessible location for the chipper truck
  • Do not block roads, driveways, or sidewalks
  • Avoid placing piles within 10 feet of utility poles or fire hydrants
  • On slopes, place piles on the uphill side of the driveway or road
  • Piles must be visible and accessible — no behind-gate or fence locations
  • Avoid muddy or soft areas; contractors may skip piles if access could damage equipment

💡 Pro Tips:

  • Register early before you start building your pile.
  • Be ready by 8:00 AM on your scheduled chipping date.
  • No need to be home unless you want to keep the chips.
  • Have a plan for your property’s long-term vegetation management—this is a great head start.
