SLO County FireSafe Council Presents $60,000 to Support Local Partners
The San Luis Obispo County FireSafe Council presented checks totaling $60,000 to two local partners during its September 16, 2026, Board of Directors meeting at Atascadero City Hall.
The Council presented a $20,000 check to the SLO County Range Improvement Association and a $40,000 check to Cal Poly’s Forest and Fire Sciences Department. These presentations highlighted the Council’s commitment to supporting partnerships that advance forest health, wildfire resilience, and community safety throughout San Luis Obispo County.

Cal Poly Forest and Fire Sciences Presentation
The meeting featured a presentation from Jeremy James, PhD, Department Head, and Andrew Johnson, PhD, Wildfire Professor, representing Cal Poly’s Forest and Fire Sciences Department.
Their participation provided an opportunity to connect university expertise with the Council’s regional forest and wildfire capacity work. Collaboration among researchers, landowners, and community organizations helps strengthen the knowledge and partnerships needed to address local wildfire challenges.
Building Regional Capacity
The check presentations recognized the important role both organizations play as local partners. Bringing these partners together supports a shared commitment to healthier landscapes and communities better prepared for wildfire.
The FireSafe Council thanks the SLO County Range Improvement Association, Cal Poly’s Forest and Fire Sciences Department, and our Board of Directors for their continued collaboration.
The meeting was held Wednesday, September 16, 2026, from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. at Atascadero City Hall, 6500 Palma Avenue.
